There are some places that photographs simply can't do justice to, and the Grand Canyon is certainly one of them.

I captured this image in 2019 during my rim-to-rim-to-rim run across the Grand Canyon—an adventure that took me from one side of the canyon to the other and all the way back again, entirely on foot.

Running through the Grand Canyon gives you a completely different appreciation for its size and beauty. What looks like a distant ridge from the rim becomes an enormous landscape when you're making your way through it. Every mile brings a new perspective, from towering rock formations and winding trails to the incredible layers of color carved into the canyon over millions of years.
This particular photograph captures one of my favorite aspects of the canyon: the way the light transforms the landscape. The soft pastel sky contrasts with the deep reds and muted purples of the canyon walls, while the distant ridgelines seem to disappear endlessly into the horizon.

One of the challenges of combining photography with an endurance adventure like this is finding the balance between experiencing the moment and stopping to capture it. But when you're surrounded by scenery like this, it's difficult not to reach for the camera.

Looking back, the run was about much more than covering the miles. It was about challenging myself, experiencing an extraordinary place in a way few people get to, and appreciating the incredible beauty along the way.
